It goes without saying that the military plays an important role in the Hampton Roads community. K9 Veterans Day, celebrated in March, acknowledges the heroism of military and service dogs who have aided their human companions at home and abroad.
About K9 Veterans Day
Veteran and professional dog trainer Joe White founded K9 Veterans Day as a way to commemorate dogs who have served in various capacities. Every March 13, we are called to remember the sacrifices and accomplishments of these brave dogs.
Since 1942, with the establishment of the US Army K9 Corps, the military has trained dogs to perform a number of tasks to aid in national security. Often we associate military animals with detecting explosives and other contraband, but the K9 Corps do so much more. K9s assist in search and rescue missions, patrolling classified areas, and detecting injuries and other medical issues. Some also serve as therapy dogs for wounded soldiers.

Care-A-Lot is also proud to work with Mutts With a Mission, which trains service dogs for military veterans. Visit our Giving Back page to learn more about the foundation and other events we sponsor for the benefit of all pets.
