Giving Tuesday
We were overwhelmed with your support during our Care-A-Lot Charitable Foundation’s Gift Basket Raffle Charity Drive. This year during the month of October we raised $13,000 for 9 local shelters, rescues, and pet non-profits to supply homeless pets with housing, food, toys, and other needed items.
So how exactly does the Care-A-Lot Charitable Foundation work?
This Giving Tuesday, we would like to look back on the type of challenges the Care-A-Lot Charitable Foundation was able to help alleviate in our community.
Emergency Response:
No SPCA could prepare for the sudden influx of abused dogs and puppies. In the beginning of February, news went out that an undercover puppy mill in Currituck County had been busted. We were able to immediately supply Currituck County Animal Shelter with the food, toys, and other supplies needed to accommodate the 60 dogs and puppies who were immediately housed there. As of right now, almost all the dogs have found a forever home.
Community Initiatives
Animals are not the only ones in our community in need. March is Multiple Sclerosis Awareness month and Care-A-Lot Pet Supply goes all out. Multiple Sclerosis is a neurological disease that affects the brain and spinal cord using the immune system. A MS diagnosis doesn’t only affect those with the disease, but it also touches their circle of loved ones. During the Spring season we cover the store in orange footprints signed by YOU and other pet lovers who assisted us with this cause. We went even further by participating in Multiple Sclerosis Society’s Walk MS event, where we loved connecting with those afflicted with MS and allies one-on-one.
We are big fans of sports, which is why you may notice our involvement with Polar Plunge. Care-A-Lot Pet Supply strives to get the Virginia Special Olympics team to the top by fundraising throughout winter. You may notice frozen pawprints very soon in stores. We don’t just do it for show, we go all in and participate in the plunge festivities and dive into the cold waters of Virginia Beach. Shows we are not all bark.
SPCA day-to-day:
When we partner with an animal rescue, we follow up and support them throughout the year. Our monthly donations include an ongoing partnership providing Pet Adoption Kits to new pet parents. With every adoption of a cat or dog, Care-A-Lot Pet Supply provides a packet of coupons valued at over $200 including free items like a litter scoop and a small bag of food. Our local animal rescues include Norfolk SPCA, Currituck Animal Shelter, Chesapeake Humane Society, Peninsula SPCA, Billy the Kidden Rescue, Lil' Roar Rescue, Rainbow Rescue, Tuna's Guinea Pig Rescue, and Mutts with a Mission. Our foundation provides direct assistance in the form of donations, fundraising assistance, and free space in our store for adoption events and photoshoots. This allows each partner organization to thrive throughout the year and not only during the popular giving season.
We are thankful to our customers who help support the Care-A-Lot Charitable foundation throughout 2022. All donations, gift basket raffle funds, and support goes back into the Hampton Roads and Moyock, NC community, and we look forward to what else we can accomplish with your help in 2023!
A donation to the Care-A-Lot Charitable Foundation can be made at any of our stores at Customer Service, or you can call our Customer Service department at 1-800-343-7680 and make a donation over the phone, or you can mail a check written out to the Care-A-Lot Charitable Foundation to our corporate offices.
