Russian Blue 
The Russian Blue is a medium-sized cat with a unique short, plush, blue-grey coat. The double coat has a soft and downy undercoat with longer blue guard hairs with silver tips. These silver tips give the coat a shimmering appearance. The head has a medium wedge shape with a blunt muzzle. The face has a broad appearance due to the wide-set eyes and the thick fur. The ears are large, wide at the base with rounded tips. The eyes are round in shape and are customarily dark and vivid green. The neck is long a slender but looks short because of the heavy coat. The body is long, firm and muscular and the paws are small and slightly rounded. The tail is long, thick at the base and tappers at the end.

Temperament

The Russian Blue is a very active and intelligent breed. They have been known to open doors and windows, love to play fetch and are very sensitive to human emotions. This breed bonds very closely with their loved ones. They get along well with other animals, strangers, and with children in the household. Russian Blues are very quiet and serene. Males are known to be more active and outgoing than the female of this breed. This undemanding cat fits perfectly into today?s busy schedules.

This is a hardy breed; however, if given dry cat food, some may overeat which can lead to vomiting.

Living Conditions
|
The Russian Blue can be either an indoor or outdoor cat, though most enjoy spending their time indoors. They do great in an apartment, but can withstand harsh, cold temperatures because of their thick double coat.

Exercise
|
Cats receive valuable exercise from playing. Playing builds the bond that you share as well as burns calories, releases aggression and burns off excess energy in younger cats. Russian Blues should be encouraged to play and exercise to prevent them from becoming overweight.

|
Russian Blues require minimal grooming. Some owners believe that the longer you wait to brush the coat, the more radiant it becomes.

Origin
|
The Russian Blue?s origins may never be known as most are based largely on conjecture and legend. The most common tale is that the Russian Blue originated in northern Russia, and in the 1860s, was transported to Great Britain from the port city of Arkhangelsk. This is probably why this breed was previously known as the Archangel Blue. Though this tale was never confirmed, similar cats can be found today in the colder regions of Russia. The plush double coat would definitely be an advantage in an area that is close to the Arctic Circle.
