Partner Spotlight:
Thank you so much to everyone who participated in our 36th Anniversary raffles! While we’re still crunching the numbers and waiting for winning announcements, we want to demonstrate how your participation helps us make Hampton Roads a better place for pets and their families. The Care-A-Lot Charitable Foundation works with various rescues and organizations across Hampton Roads by providing vital supplies used in day-to-day animal care directly, or as a means for fundraising.
This month, we are partnering with Paws in Need as our feature local non-profit spotlight!
If we had it our way, our pets would be with us for as long as possible. However, many families across Virginia struggle with the high cost of healthcare for their four-legged loved ones. Paws in Need is a Chesapeake-based, 501c3 non-profit organization aimed at helping pet owners with financial aid resources for life-saving animal healthcare and end of life care. Paws in Need had previously partnered with The PetWay, and Care-A-Lot wanted to continue to support that friendship.
Founded by Gina Highfield, Paws in Need focuses on financial education and a streamlined donation process as the forefront of their methods. This involves putting more efforts into preventative care, staying informed about local resources, and obtaining financial assistance.
According to their website, “the goal in educating one pet owner at a time about these resources is to make pet owners circumstances more sustainable, which will keep animals out of shelters and together with the people who need and love them.” In other words, the best way to clear the shelters is to keep families from having to surrender pets to begin with. “Funding care for just 50 animals is the equivalent of emptying an average-size shelter, so even a fraction of the animals we assist remain out of shelters and saved from economic euthanasia.”
Paws in Need will be hosting an upcoming event at Pups and Pints in Virginia Beach on May 18th. They will be throwing a baby shower for all the puppies and kittens born this spring. Swing by the event and you may have a chance to win a gift basket full of pet goodies and prizes from Care-A-Lot Pet Supply!
